For Women Who Are Unapologetically Ambitious and Fiercely Informed

We just got back from our annual vacation to Greece (hence the two week newsletter hiatus) - it's the trip we look forward to every year and this year was no different. Boat culture, bare feet, fresh octopus and even better friends and company - coming back to real life is so hard. And then the news cycle hits - ICE raids, murder in Minnesota, the Diddy verdict - and the circus of THAT wedding... WTF is happening??  So much heavy shit it's a wonder any of us can focus on real life. But we do, over and over, because this world won't change itself. We have shit to do and we have new podcast episodes to release. And this one is a doozy! Because speaking of THAT wedding - Amy Nelson has a thing or two to say about it. You may know her as the woman defending her family and husband against false charges by Bezos himself, but she's so much more - founder of the Riveter, keynote speaker - and a woman on a mission to right the wrongs in this world and help women find their power. Listen below!!!

Four Ways To Support Women In Business

When my twins were about 4 years old, they both contracted a stomach bug and had to be taken to the doctor. Since it was a sick visit, we didn't see our normal doctor, of course. When our doctor came in, both kids looked really confused - like who is this person confused. They answered all his questions in their 4 year old vernacular and when he left the room, they both turned to me amazed and my son said "Mommy, boys can be doctors too?". True story. I answered - of course they can - it's really hard and they have to focus, but boys too can be doctors. I thankfully had been following my own advice in hiring women, so of course, all of our doctors were women. So with that - here are 4 ways you too can help support women in business:

1) Hire women and their businesses. Put them in leadership roles and choose women-owned companies as vendors and partners to put money in their pockets. Also, fun fact, if you click on the sponsor links above, we get paid - so you can start right now!

2) Invest in women-led ventures. With less than 2% of VC funding going to women, intentional investment is critical to closing the gap. Put money in a WeFunder, invest as in a fund.

3) Open doors. Mentorship is great, but sponsorship is better. Recommend women for deals, board seats, and leadership roles. Say their names in rooms they aren't in.

4) Challenge bias. Speak up about unequal pay, limited parental leave, and performative DEI. Change happens when we stop accepting broken systems.

Jameela Jamil Is Done With Being
Interviewed By Women

Jameela Jamil is done being interviewed by women in print - and her reasons expose the patriarchy's perfect trap. After 17 years of interviews, she can count on one hand the female journalists who portrayed her fairly. The rest showed up with agendas, ready to tear down rather than engage with her ideas about systemic injustice. When men interview passionate women, they engage with the message. When women interview women? It becomes character assassination - questioning motives, demanding credentials, and focusing on past mistakes rather than current advocacy. Here's the brutal truth: Many female journalists survive male-dominated media by doing the patriarchy's dirty work, taking women down with just enough plausible deniability to seem unbiased. In fact, the CUT wrote an article about it - by a woman - and guess what she did? She proved Jameela's point once again! The system tells us women are too rich, too thin, too attractive, or not qualified enough to speak on injustice - so who exactly is "qualified"? No one, by design. I was recently meeting with Tones & I - yes that one - and she furthered the point by saying never has there been a "Who Wore It Better" between Post Malone & Travis Scott.  So why the fuck is there one for women? Whether you're raising capital, fighting for change, or simply existing as an ambitious woman, they'll question your worthiness to speak. Don't let them make you smaller. Tell us your thoughts on this - does Jameela have a point?

Hi, I’m JJ.

Since starting the Justice Dept, I have increased women's wealth by over $100MM in just over 5 years. Want to know what inspires me to do this work? My clients' surprised reaction when I manage to get them much better terms for themselves and their companies, whether talent agreements, employment, severance, partnerships, asset sales or investments. They often admit that they never thought they could get that result. Not even hoped. This blows my mind
