4 Questions to Ask Your Partner About Money (If You’re Not in Control)

1. Where is it?
   Every account, every asset, every debt. Know what’s in both your names, what’s only in theirs, and where it all actually lives. In fact, get all the details to the financial manager and schedule a call with them yourself.

2. What’s the plan?
   How are bills being paid, how is debt managed, and what’s the strategy for savings, retirement, and emergencies?  If there is none, guess who should be taking charge?  Y-O-U. 

3. What’s mine, what's yours and where is the will?
   If something happened tomorrow - breakup, illness, accident, whatever - what’s protected in your name, what’s shared, what could you lose access to, and where are the actual estate planning documents? If you haven't done it yet, guess we know your plans this weekend.  

4. What about life insurance?
   Do you both have policies? What kind?  Who are the beneficiaries? Which companies are they with?  And how is everything structured to actually pay out if the worst happened?

Because love is grand, but blind trust is not.
