Resources for Supporting Abortion Access First;

Updates on our amazing community of women in business second.

Welcome to the July newsletter for The Justice Dept, a space where we share business opportunities and news about how our clients and friends are building a system that works for us. Among all of the fun and exciting things women in our network are up to right now, there is a new era of hostility and discrimination against women happening throughout our country, starting in the highest court.

Like most of you, we are still processing the Supreme Court’s recent devastating and unjust decision that severely undercuts and disregards the freedoms of women throughout the United States. We are heartbroken, we are angry, and we are not going to give up and allow the generations below us to grow up in a worse environment than we did. We are revisiting a piece written by our friend Reshma Saujani back in May for Elle, “The Opposite Of Abortion Isn’t Motherhood. It’s Injustice.” and thankful for everyone stepping up to share their stories about the choices they’ve made with their own bodies.

Abortion Funds need all of the support they can receive right now, along with organizations like Freeform, who support domestic violence survivors. We encourage everyone to get familiar with the resources available state-by-state; there are hotlines here for those seeking abortions, and lists of providers maintaining their commitment to providing the basic health care that all women have the right to.

We will aid and abet abortion. Every single day.

NFT NYC: Bringing Together Women in Web3

NFT NYC Week was a blast.

We kicked it off with these co-hosts with a ladies lunch at Cecconi’s. Hosted by Ariel Wengroff, Shira Lazar, mec, Shannon Herber, & Anne Bracegirdle, supported by Wink, Ledger, Metaversal, and Aokiverse

Web3 & Music: The Road Ahead

JJ was asked to speak on not one, but two panels at this years Trusted x LA conference (the only person to be asked twice!)

She discussed the opportunities, potential for innovation, and complications of web3 for the music industry with Vickie Nauman, Mickey Maher, and Geoff Sawyer on a Web3 & Music: The Road Ahead panel, and went back on the stage Syama Meagher, Michelle Reeves of Mavion and Brooke Jackson to talk about the future of ecommerce, business development and future of the metaverse 💰

There are so many incredible things happening in this space to keep your eyes on and it was amazing to talk it out with this group.Thank you for having us Trusted Advisor!

Cryptocurrency and NFTs have been a hot topic – and one that advisors with high net worth clients are looking for concrete guidance on. Many clients are heavily invested in the space, and are interested in creating and collecting NFTs. This has created a series of unique challenges from a tax, legal, and risk perspective. The slow roll-out of State and Federal legislation adds to the complexity.

We’re Raising $$$: Have You Experienced west~bourne?

west~bourne is a forever California state of mind with our minimalist, intentional approach to food, lifestyle, and gathering. Inspired by the atmospheric Los Angeles-based Light and Space artists of the 1960s to be a beacon connecting people and our planet. What began as the first mission-driven, zero-waste neighborhood restaurant in SoHo, NYC, dedicated to piloting conscious capitalism in the food industry, now expands through our climate positive provisions into your home.

Chef and Founder Camilla Marcus’ love for hospitality stemmed from a childhood filled with gathering around the dinner table, frequent trips to the farmers market, and cooking with everything on hand—from seed to stem—in order to reduce waste. All she does is enriched by her Los Angeles upbringing—communal, laidback, intentional, mindful, and always through the lens of sustainability. As evidenced by west~bourne’s community-driven model, advocacy is in Camilla’s nature. She is a co-founder of ROAR (Restaurants Organizing Advocating Rebuilding) and a founding member of the IRC (Independent Restaurant Coalition).

PerfectDD Gone Viral

Our favorite sustainable, fuller bust clothing line (female-founded, of course) has gone viral and hit the news!

Alice Kim, Founder and CEO of PerfectDD, went to TikTok to share the common - outrageous - responses she gets about her company, and the result is hilarious.

“One of our videos has over 7M views where I share the general response I get when I tell them about the business.• “Is it ‘really’ a problem?”• “You’re not even that big!” (FYI: I’m a 32DD)• “So you sell bras.”• “Oh, you’re in the plus size business.”The list goes on and on but the millions of women who are in this demographic understand the struggle is REAL.High quality fashion ethically and sustainably made to fit and flatter our DD+s. Why? Because we deserve it. We’re here for you, busties!”

Nothing is better than seeing a female-founded company succeed by being so true to the problem they are seeking to solve. Congrats Alice!

Say goodbye to default parenting, the mental load, and toxic time messages

For anyone who has ever thought “I have no time for myself” or “this isn’t the career and marriage combo I thought I’d have” –Eve Rodsky has been there.

In the documentary FAIR PLAY, inspired by her New York Times best-selling book of the same name, Eve takes us on her journey to change the unbalanced care dynamic in her home and in society at large. By following three families on their own journeys to find balance at home, we see how even the smallest fights around dirty dishes are actually linked to systemic issues affecting millions of families across the globe.

Written, produced, and directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom (MISS REPRESENTATION, THE MASK YOU LIVE IN) and in partnership with Hello Sunshine, FAIR PLAY features experts including Melinda Gates, Ai-jen Poo, Tony Porter, and the U.S. Representative Katie Porter. FAIR PLAY demonstrates how private lives are public issues. By making the invisible care work historically held by women visible, FAIR PLAY inspires a more equitable and intentionally balanced future.
